KNOW YOUR LIBRARY RULES
LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS
Introduction
All users are expected to abide by the following under listed rules and regulations of the University Library. Violation of any of these attracts appropriate punishment against the offender.
1. Noise making, playing, sleeping and other acts of disturbance are prohibited in the Library and its surroundings.
2. Orderly conduct and neatness must be maintained in all parts of the Library.
3. Congregating in the lobby/passage/stair cases is strictly prohibited.
4. All Library materials and equipment must be treated with care. Any damage occurring must be reported at once. The University Librarian shall cause any reader to pay the cost of repair/replacement of any damaged property.
5. The person responsible for the cost of replacement estimated by the University Librarian shall pay for any book or other Library material which is lost, destroyed or damaged beyond repair.
6. The University Librarian is empowered to suspend/bar any person who flagrantly infringes on the rules and regulations from the use of any of or all of the Library’s services/facilities.
7. All Library materials taken out on loan by students must be returned by the end of each Academic Session notwithstanding the date(s) due for return. Offenders will be surcharged as in overdue cases.
8. Access to rooms/areas marked "Staff only" or "Out of Bounds" are restricted to
library users.

9. Library users must show their membership cards while entering the Library, whenever asked to do so by any member of the Library staff.
10. Library tickets and membership cards are not transferable. Readers are advised to keep them securely. They are valuable documents and readers are held responsible for the book(s) or any material(s) issued against their tickets.
11. Books must be returned immediately on demand from the Library. They are issued out only with this strict understanding.
12. Before leaving the University after completion of study, each student must return all books borrowed from the Library. In addition, a copy of both soft and hard copies of the final year project/thesis/dissertation shall be submitted to the Library. Failure to do so, may delay the student’s clearance process.
13. Marking or defacing of any kind of Library materials is strictly forbidden. Culprits will be surcharged at a cost determined by the University Librarian.
14. Brief cases, umbrellas, handbags etc must be left in the pigeon holes provided at the entrance. It is advisable not to leave valuables in bags. All such items are kept at owner's risk.
15. Readers must show all books in their possession to the Porters when leaving the Library so as to ensure that all Library materials have been properly issued out. Readers are reminded to check very well their books before reaching the Porters' Desk. Any Library material(s)/item(s) intercepted by the Porter or Library staff without any evidence of authorization shall be considered and treated as illegal removal until it is proved otherwise, by the Library Investigation/Security Committee.
16. Smoking, use of matches, lighter, inflammable items, fire/naked lights, knives, razor blades, scissors or any dangerous/harmful objects/items are prohibited in the Library. Offenders will be rusticated from the University for a minimum of two semesters.
17. Readers shall not bring food/liquid items nor use any electrical apparatus/appliances or flash cameras in the Library without prior authorisation by the University Librarian. Such item(s) will be confiscated immediately.
18. All Library books and journals (except Reserve books) shall be left on the reading tables and readers should not shelve them after use. Hiding of Library materials is also not allowed.
19. Readers shall not reserve seats either for themselves or for others. The Library staff shall remove books and other materials from any seat left unoccupied, and then allocate the space to any other user.
20. Use of audio-visual or electronic equipment in the Library without permission is not allowed. Such items shall be confiscated by the Library.
21. Making or receiving phone call(s) is prohibited in the Library. Any body found making or receiving call(s) as stipulated in this rule will have his phone seized for the period of two (2) weeks from the date of that seizure.
22. Any assault, violence, fight or defiance by user against any Library staff attracts appropriate disciplinary sanction.
23. There are two Emergency Exits/doors on the Ground Floor. These doors may be used by users only in emergency situation.
24. Mutilation of library material(s) and/or unauthorized removal of any Library material(s) from the Library to outside the Library are serious offences punishable with EXPULSION.

COMMENCEMENT OF GST LECTURES

Nigerian Library Association Holds her 55th Annual Conference
The Nigerian Library Association (NLA) held
her 55th Annual Conference at University of Lagos Multipurpose Hall, Akoka,
Yaba, Lagos, on the 23rd – 27th of July, 2017.
The theme for this year's Conference is "Libraries in Promotion of National Integration for Development".
The NLA recently launched a website: NLA.NG. Visit the site and subscribe for more insights into the exploits of the Nigerian Library Association.
